About Carlton Cullins
Born in Louisiana. Raised in Texas. Parents were both educators with a wide range of interests. Raised to treat others with respect, to live an honest life, work hard and be thankful for what I have. I grew up with a lot good friends, played music, played sports and enjoyed the outdoors. Moved to Austin after college and played in bands for a decade. Eventually I found my way to health & fitness by way of personal training. Started my own company in 2008. Married the love of my life a few years later. Adopted a cat and a dog. I continue to work as a personal trainer focusing my energy of the message of self-care. My story is much deeper than this but hopefully you get the picture. My goal has always been to leave the world better than how I found it. I hope you will too.

New Weekly Tipz Show! This week is Part 2 from last week. Last week demonstrated a few full body exercises so that’d you’d have an idea of what i mean when i say “never sit down to exercise”. This week i show a few more examples. But just know that there are many. This is only intended to simply give you a few ideas. Next week i will demonstrate a sample workout, done in real time. This week just focus on the idea of “variety”. Get up. Stand up. Move.

New Weekly Tipz (repost)! This week is part 1 of 2 (or 3). I just wanted to show some of you what “full body” movements look like. Just to get you thinking. There will be more next week and a workout video the week after next. This video today is NOT a workout or a prescription. It’s just me showing a bunch of progressions of movement. Some are easy, some are a bit harder. The idea is to not sit down to do exercise…stand up!

New Weekly Tipz for the week of Jan 30! This week i talk about 6 or 7 things that most people probably shouldn’t do while working out at the gym or at home. These observations are based on years of working for a big box gym. I, along with many other trainers, witnessed many wasteful things. Sadly, not much has changed since then. Sadly, people still do many useless things, much of which has been hanging around for decades. This is not to be mean, only to educate. Evolve.

New Weekly Health&Fitness Tipz! It seems with the new year that many are trying to squeeze in new workouts before, after or during work. I think it’s great but i also think they need to be short. Like 15 minutes at most. The reason being that most of us won’t last long forcing long workouts when we’re tired and/or busy. Keep ’em brief. Trim the fat off the workouts. Do 2-4 full-body exercises with shorter rest periods. Hit it and quit. Don’t forget to eat or drink a post-workout meal within 30 minutes!

Note to self: Today i manually self-massaged my right Psoas area by lying on back with both bent knees layed down to the left side. Immediately for the first time in a year or so my hip-flexor tightness/pain seemed to go away. Maybe it wasn’t my external quad hip-flexor/upper groin area that had trigger points. Maybe now my right glutes(medius and maximus) will work better and keep my right knee(mainly medial) from hurting after intense movement.
/2 Comments/by Carlton CullinsNew Weekly Tipz! When a trainer mentions the word STRENGTH, too often folks assume they only mean the kind of strength burly muscle-bound guys want. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Every man, woman & child needs a basic base level of strength to function properly in the world. But to get it, you must train for it. This should be a top priority for everyone. Doing cardio without ever training for strength is a really bad idea, especially if you are just trying to lose body fat.
